Career

Liam McBean was drafted by the Richmond Football Club with pick 33 in the 2012 AFL National Draft. After playing for Richmond's Victorian Football League (VFL) team for the entirety of the 2013 and 2014 seasons, he made his AFL debut in 2015. While senior listed at Richmond in 2015, McBean was awarded the Jim 'Frosty' Miller Medal as the VFL Leading Goal kicker in matches played for the club's reserve side. He kicked 42 goals for the season and tied with two others for the award.

At the conclusion of the 2016 season, he was delisted by Richmond.

In 2017, McBean played for Glenelg in the SANFL. He stepped away from the club in 2018 to travel overseas. He returned to Glenelg for the 2019 season and started with a bang against the Adelaide reserves, kicking a season high 9 goals. He finished the season as the League's Ken Farmer Medallist (Leading Goal kicker) for the Home and Away season, with 46 goals. However with the inclusion of goals kicked during the Finals campaign he tied with team mate Luke Reynolds for the club leading goal kicker with 53 goals. In a shortened 2020 season he once again topped the League goal kicking, level with Rowe from WWT Eagles on 38 goals.

McBean was recipient of one of the two Bob Quinn Medals awarded in 2021 over the Anzac Day weekend. His was for the 2019 Grand Final rematch, as the Port club were not competing in 2020 due to Covid restrictions and AFL instructing their clubs not to compete in the State competitions.

Although primarily a key Forward, McBean was often used as a back up ruck to fair effect.
