In 2010 Button suffered serious injuries - firstly stress fractures in his foot resulted in him missing eight weeks, then a ruptured spleen stopped him playing for six months.  He played the 2011 season with Strathalbyn in the Great Southern League, away from the rigours of SANFL football,  before returning to Glenelg for 2012.
