Fred Pincombe

Fred "Stump" Pincombe coached Glenelg for the first three games of the 1924 season, before handing over the reins to Dave Smith.

Pincombe, originally from Broken Hill where he was an outstanding footballer and cricketer, played cricket with Glenelg in the 1923/24 season. He was appointed as coach of the Bays for the 1924 football season, succeeding Richard Head. Unfortunately his coaching style was not well regarded, and after three successive losses he tendered his resignation to the Committee in May 1924.

• Note: Contrary to the assertion on Bernard Whimpress' The South Australian Football Story (SANFL 1983), Pincombe was not sacked in 1925 after winning the first Round match and then losing to Port Adelaide the next week. Pincombe coached in 1924, and the coach in 1925 (the season of the Bays first win) was Cyril Hoft.
