Where Is He Now?
Rarely seen in football circles nowadays is a man who twice was runner up for the Magarey Medal, was one of the first chosen for the State side each year of his hey-day and was a brilliant player for a team that was at the bottom of the list during most of his career.
What* Happened To LEN SALLIS?
Len, not a big man physically — he was 5 ft. 9 1/2 in. and 11 st 7 lb. when at the peak of his career — nevertheless played brilliant football against some classy inter state opposition in the early thirties.
A centreman with Glenelg, his all-round skill gained him State selection despite the wealth of centre man talent then available to the State — Pontifex, Snell, Bateman, Jaffer. to mention a few.
He played at half-forward during much of his inter state career. Sailis began his league career in 1924 and was a star with Glenelg for 11 years. He was a member of the club's lone premiership side of 1934. An electrical engineer, Sallis lives at Euston avenue, Highgate. His elder son, Brian, is at the University where he shows cricket ability. Younger son John is in his last year at Scotch College, where he is in the first six in tennis.
