Peter McInerney was a talented rover who joined Glenelg from West Whyalla and gave the club sound service between 1975 and 1983, playing a total of 153 senior games and kicking 182 goals.

He was at his peak during the late 1970s, and represented South Australia once every season between 1977 and 1979.
