A popular team member, Lush commuted each week from his home in Geranium - a round trip of 300 miles (approx 480 km).  Indeed in his first year with Glenelg he was reportedly only arriving in Adelaide at 2.30 pm and had to be driven directly to the game.  Not surprisingly, by June 1940 Lush had opted to play for his local Geranium side as Australia went onto a war footing.
