Originally from Castlemaine, Heath Culpitt played with the Bendigo Pioneers, then he later made his way onto the Carlton Rookie List for 1999, and promoted to the Senior list later that year. His appearances for Carlton were limited to 15 games over three seasons, before being delisted at the end of 2001.

He found his way to Glenelg, reuniting with former Carlton team mate Brett Backwell. A right footed midfielder, Culpitt was a prolific possession gatherer at SANFL level. At the end of 2005 Glenelg chose to parts ways from Culpitt after a turbulent year which saw player unrest and the sacking of the then coach.

Culpitt finished his SANFL career with Norwood.
