Walter Claude Bailey bailey first played for Glenelg in 1935. He played chiefly as a forward and provided backup in the rucks.

Gnr. Claude Bailey enlisted in the Army 16 June 1941 and died a prisoner of war on 24 June 1944. Gnr. Bailey was captured in Timor, and after imprisonment in Java for nearly two and a half years,was being transferred to a prison camp in Japan when the boat was torpedoed. Official confirmation of his death took nearly 18 months to reach his family.
