Career
Arthur Hannaford was a highly versatile footballer capable of playing in most positions on the field, although he was perhaps best suited to a half back flank. He is fondly recalled by veteran Bays fans for his feat in kicking the goal which sealed the club’s place in the 1950 finals series. Glenelg went on to reach the grand final but Hannaford’s two goals could not prevent a 47 point loss to Norwood.
Hannaford’s SANFL career comprised 129 games in which he kicked 15 goals in 1938 and between 1946 and 1951.
In 1946 while still on Service from World War II Hannaford played with Prahran in Victoria on permit, before discharge and resuming at the Bay mid-year.
