Neville "Twiggy" Caldwell was a highly skilled Bay favourite. A skilful, long-kicking utility,he was ahead of his time, combining height and pace to burn.

Perhaps the most memorable incident in his career came in his last match for Glenelg - the 1981 Grand Final. In the second quarter Caldwell was knocked unconscious behind play by Port Adelaide hard nut, David Granger. The game stopped for over six minutes while medical staff carefully placed Caldwell onto a stretcher. Granger was reported by Glenelg, led by football director Harry Kernahan, and was suspended for six games.
