After playing TAC Cup for Calder Cannons, Marcus Baldwin was drafted to Hawthorn in 1997. He spent two years with the Hawks but did not play a senior game, and was delisted at the end of the 1999 season.

Picked up by Geelong in the rookie draft, he made his debut against Melbourne late in the 2000 season, kicking three goals. Baldwin played in Geelong's last game of the season the following week, and made three appearances the following year. He was delisted at the end of 2001.
