Jarryd Lyons came through the strong St Peters junior club and later the De La Salle school football program.
He got to the Sandringham Dragons in 2010, making a seamless transition from school and Moorabbin Saints junior football to the TAC Cup.
His father, Marty Lyons, played 27 games for Melbourne (then VFL) from 1975-77 and was a leading player at Sandringham in the most vibrant days of the old VFA.
Lyons was selected by the Adelaide Crows in 2010. In 2016 he was traded to the Gold Coast, before moving to the Brisbane Lions in 2018.
The midfielder had his breakout year in 2019, renowned for his prolific work during the stoppages, tireless tackling efforts, amassing possessions and working down the ground to score goals. Lyons went on to finish fourth in the Brisbane Club Champion event for 2019.
At the end of the 2013 season Lyons, along with other AFL listed players, left Glenelg following the formation of SANFL "reserves" teams in the SANFL for Adelaide and Port Adelaide AFL clubs.
