Career
Jack Winston Hannath didn't set out to be a journeyman footballer, but in many ways circumstance has put him on that path.
He was a member of the South Australian State Under 18s team in 2009 and was invited to the AFL Draft camp that same year, but was not selected. He returned to Central District resolving to work hard and improve his overall skills. He was doing pre-season training in Darwin with the Melbourne AFL club when selected in the pre-season AFL draft in December 2012 by Fremantle.
Hannath had a good debut season in 2013, playing 12 games. He only managed 8 more games in a further 3 seasons, playing most of his football with Fremantle's WAFL affiliate, Peel Thunder. Fremantle delisted him at the end of 2016.
He returned to Central for 2 seasons, although he fell out of favour in 2018 with then coach Roy Laird.
During his AFL tenure Hannath had collected a Master’s Degree in sports science, focusing on high performance sport. With Northern Territory Institute of Sport offering him a job as their program pathways coordinator, looking after elite programs, he took on a full season in the NEAFL in 2019 for NT Thunder. After playing all 18 NEAFL games he impressively went on to finish third in the 2019 Club Champions Ilett Medal count.
Recruited to cover the loss of retiring premiership ruck Jesse White, Hannath played every game in his debut season for Glenelg in 2020.
In the midst of current "short socks" fashion Hannath has preserved the traditional long socks approach, often being the only player afield to do so. This has endeared him greatly to the Snout's Louts.
