Glenelg have easy win over South

Glenelg easily defeated South in a one-sided game at Adelaide Oval.

Glenelg matched South's early speed and had greater ruck strength and superior stamina.
Glenelg coach, Johnny Taylor, has evidently determined to have his team as fit as possible for the early games of the minor round.
South forwards were early bustled off their feet by Glenelg defenders. South were forced to make hurried shots for goal, with a resulting run of singles.
The only position where South had a clear-cut advantage was at centre, where Deane was the starting point of most South attacks. The South forwards could not make use of their opportunities.
Glenelg were going straight for goal through Laurie Taylor at centre half-forward.
It was not until half-way through the second term that Glenelg began to exert their expected ruck advantage.
More speed
The Tigers speeded up their game after half-time and with Crabb and Laffin calling the tune in ruck, they cleared out to a good lead.
Don Taylor, who had defended well at centre half-back, went to centre to oppose Deane half-way through the third
term. For the first time in the game, South were beaten at centre.
Churchett, the Tigers' goal-sneak, was brought right into the game in the third term, when Laurie Taylor passed the ball accurately to him and it was apparent that Glenelg would win as they liked.
Glenelg went further ahead in the last term. South had sent Deane to centre half forward in an effort to speed up their attack, but the move had little effect.
The Glenelg rucks continued to call the tune at the centre bounce.
Good defender
Don Taylor, after a quiet opening, was the mainstay of the Glenelg defence. His safe marking and accurate kicking often drove South out of scoring range.
Crabb and Laffin must be ranked together for a grand performance in ruck. Their control of the centre bounce gave Glenelg an open road to goal for the rest of the game.
Laurie Taylor did well at centre half forward by accurate passing to Churchett.
Deane was again the star for South. He was in control at centre.
Michelmore battled hard for (illegible) in ruck. He gave South an early advantage at the centre bounce.
