Career
Jarryd Lyons came through the strong St Peters junior club (and later the De La Salle school football program).
Three years ago it appeared he was more keen on his cricket, leaving a Sandringham Dragons junior squad to play at Premier club St Kilda.
He got to the Dragons only this year, making a seamless transition from school and Moorabbin Saints junior football to the TAC Cup.
AFL draft oracle Kevin Sheehan called him an “agile player with terrific ball-winning ability, footy know-how and endurance’‘, noting he averaged 21 disposals and kicked 23 goals in 16 matches with the Dragons this year.
His father, Marty Lyons, was a fine footballer, playing 27 games for Melbourne (then VFL) from 1975-77 and being a leading player at Sandringham in the most vibrant days of the old VFA.
