The SANFL Under 17's (originally known as Colts) competition ran from 1939 to 1941 and then 1947 until 2008.

In 2009 the SANFL ceased the Under 17's competition when they changed the under 19's competition to Under 18's to be consistent across all States ie to facilitate the AFL draft which predominately looks at 18 year olds.
