A bit of a mystery really: described in The News as "Byrne, a ruckman from Birdwood. Probably he will be the biggest man in league football this season. He is tall and weighs more than 14 st. He kicks well and should make an ideal shepherd for Johnston in the first ruck."
In the event Mr Byrne only played the first three games for Glenelg in 1934 as a "ruck shepherd" and although named for Round 4 he was replaced in the side. We are not aware of his given names, only his initials, leaving him as a mystery man of the club's history.
