William "Billy" Wilson (18 October 1924 – 11 July 1969) was an effervescent, fiery rover who was quintessentially hard as nails. He was a fearless player who was both talented and skilful. He had a fine turn of speed and very good goal sense. He was given the nickname of “Gimme”, because at Richmond (VFL) he used to say to Roy Wright and Bill Morris, “give me the ball”.

Wilson, who was a regular State representative (10 games in all) for most of his VFL career, played 185 games and kicked 225 goals for Richmond between 1944 and 1954. He won the club’s best and fairest award in 1947.

He spent three seasons with Glenelg from 1955, coming equal third for the Magarey Medal in his first season. That same year he won both the Bays’ best-and-fairest award and the prestigious News-Ampol Trophy.

He then returned to Richmond and coached the Under 19 side from 1958 to 1960, leading them to the premiership in his first year. He coached the VFL Under 19s side that defeated South Australian Colts in 1960. He was a Richmond committeeman between 1966 and 1968, when he retired. He died in Manila in July 1969.
