He got to the Sandringham Dragons in 2010, making a seamless transition from school and Moorabbin Saints junior football to the TAC Cup.

AFL draft oracle Kevin Sheehan called him an “agile player with terrific ball-winning ability, footy know-how and endurance’‘, noting he averaged 21 disposals and kicked 23 goals in 16 matches with the Dragons in 2010.

His father, Marty Lyons, played 27 games for Melbourne (then VFL) from 1975-77 and being a leading player at Sandringham in the most vibrant days of the old VFA.

Lyons made his AFL debut for the Adelaide Crows in their Round 5 win over Port Adelaide in 2012.

At the end of the 2013 season Lyons, along with other AFL listed players, left Glenelg following the formation of SANFL "reserves" teams in the SANFL for Adelaide and Port Adelaide AFL clubs.
