VFL/AFL players

Found out why the numbers differ by one between the board in the clubrooms and what we have on our page.

The Club lists Hayden Jolly (GC 2010 - maybe should be 2011 as they did not compete in AFL until 2011?) and Christian Howard (WB 2010).

We have Hitchcock in our list but the Club seem to have missed him so far.

Spam

Click on Recent changes ... Nai did indeed fix the issue and I have (happily) deleted over two hundred spam Users.

Should not be a problem from here on, but one thing he has not explainesd is how to add new Users.

Righto ! Copy that ! Hopefully he lets you know re the new users !

Player Stats

I put up a few copies of player stats here just in case you get really bored and want to put a few player profiles up (you said you didnt have a copy of the stats). I am aiming to do a few every day or so, just so we can get through the list before the end of year sneaks up on us. I have started from the tail end of the alphabet hence didnt put those up. Any that are playing beyond 2002 you can try looking at the numbers Ecky posted on his Talk page here. Ranga 08:06, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

Pump up the SLSP

LOL. And it was a sensational goal.

The reason I have not included current season games for anyone else (Bradles for example) is that we would then have to update 21 people every week. Happy to leave it stand for Snooksy, but wont be updating it myself.  :)

Understand, thought I'd do the right thing by our man ! have to get Ecky to start filtering through his stats. Dirko 22:03, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

On fire?

Mrs is in Sydney, leaving me, the dog and a bottle of red. May as well try to get the 1981 Grand Final team sorted!

BTW I am not going to watch the coin toss tomorrow - that's your role! Ranga 12:34, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

So who's on fire now?  :P Ranga 13:11, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Boys, boys, boys

I was being shuffled out the door - that's my excuse and I am sticking to it.

Anyway, is the idea OK? I figure anyone who is already an editor can send something like that to a new editor to encourage them.

LOL ! The idea is a fantastic one ! The more encouragement for people to start putting in the better Cheers Dirko

Naming conventions

Hi Dirko

I think that we will need to agree a standard way of naming players.

For example, Cornes has three players who played for GFC. Obviously Graham is the one with the most interest for Glenelg fans, but sooner or later we will be including the sons in the list and just the surname wont separate them.

I suggest we use christian and surnames, and if there are multiple players with the same name then we include middle initials. This is what Blueseum does. If we have any where the names are absolutely identical we can list the more prolific player and have a link at the top to the "lesser" player's page. How does that sound?

Ranga 23:03, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

And with pics it will be similar - once we have a few hundred pics a name for the pic like cornes.jpg doesn't give enough hint to know which of the three it is. A slightly longer name will help when scrolling through lists of file names (Pretty sure this will be an issue for us). Mind you all the pages look better for having pics added - even if our collection is a bit thin so far. Ranga 12:49, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
Just a suggestion to make life easier - when we upload files we can name them anything we want, so giving a descriptive name helps (as I said above) and we can make comments. In the comments we need to give attribution to the pics, especially if they are not our own. If we forget to do it at upload then we can do it via the Edit function once the pic is uploaded. I am just a little nervous about someone having a go at us for using their stuff with attribution. Ranga 01:07, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Naming Individual Matches

Do you think it would make more sense to have the article page for a particular Round named after the Round and year (like they do on Blueseum) rather than the calendar date, which means little to a casual reader? Thus the game on 7 May 1921 would be on a page called Round 1 1921.

Ranga 12:25, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

I think that makes a lot more sense. The whole season is played in "Rounds", and generally, well I know I do, you tend to remember certain games or refer to games by the round number not date.
When you get to that page it will have the date anyhow.
Dirko 12:33, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
OK, well we can simply rename the pages already done with dates. Renaming is an option somewhere in the scheme of things (Special Pages?)If you cannot find out how to do it then let me know and I will track it down again. Ranga 13:22, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
Edit: MOVE the page is what renames it auto-magically. Wheee! I will do a couple to check it works as I vaguely remember it working. Ranga 22:54, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Match Reports

Hey Dirko I see you have said you have Match Reports from 2003 to 2006 from the Messenger. Have you saved a copy of them to your PC? I find that websites have a horrible habit of deleting stuff without telling anyone. Ranga 09:41, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

I have now !! This is the link I was using [1] have a squiz ! There are a few missing, but overall, 3 years worth is pretty good ! Dirko 00:04, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Sorting names

You probably noticed, but I finally made myself look up how to sort by surname. In a Category you add the way you want it sorted much like you would make the text for an internal link ... eg [[Category:Players|Hinge, John]] shows the player listed by his surname in the Category Players. • I've noticed you've done a hell of a lot of formatting ! Staring to look real good (well for you, Grant & I it is !) Formatting is not my strong point, I just sort of run the wiki in two screens and copy and paste the codes I need :)
