Leon Twelftree was a half forward flanker who began his league career with Woodville.

He played Colts football with Woodville while living in the Yorke Peninsular farming community of Urania. He played in a Colts premiership with Woodville in 1974.

He played locally with Port Victoria in 1975, winning an A Grade premiership.

Returning to Woodville in 1976, after only 4 Reserves games he was promoted to the senior side.

Aged only 18, he then struck injury problems and had trouble making the grade. Persistent ankle injuries interrupted his progress, and his form fell away. In 1978 he played only two League games and several times he was reserve for the Reserves.

It was at this point that Barrie Barbary (then Glenelg's assistant coach) suggested that he should give himself a trial with Glenelg.

He moved to the Bay but didn't debut there until 1979 and battled on from this point. In 1981 he played 10 of the first 11 games, but then he was sidelined for a year after being carried from the field with a snapped achilles tendon.

Injuries aside, Twelftree was a smooth left-footer. Playing on the half-forward line, he was elusive and under-rated.
