Dr Owen Bowering, a general medical practitioner in the Brighton area, was very active in medical education, medical politics and sports medicine for the Glenelg Football Club.

Described in The Pride of the Bay as

"an absolute gentleman who was a key part of the Glenelg Football Club for more than three decades as medical officer. His son Richard later carried on the tradition as club doctor. Medical officer 1949-82. AMA president in SA. Glenelg life member 1959."

Dr Bowering was also active in other elements of his community. He was a Charter member of the Rotary Club of Glenelg (1952) and president of that organisation 1953-54, remaining active in the organisation throughout his life. He was also President of the Australian Sports Medicine Federation (SA Branch) from 1965-1969.

Dr Bowering was born in 1915 and died in 1985.
